Integrated Proposal- Looking Deeper Task 2013
This term in integrated we have been asked to research a global issue that we feel is having a large impact on the world and I have chosen to research Julian Assange and his organisation, Wikileaks as it is having a revolutionary impact on the way that Government deals and decisions are uncovered and distributed. My research question for this topic will be “How does Julian Assange’s organisation, Wikileaks impact individuals, communities and the wider society” and I aim to cover a large array of angles of this t topic including the work of specific individuals such as Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning. The current global situation is that the USA is seeking to charge Julian Assange, its creator with espionage but he is currently on house arrest in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London therefore cannot be charged until he leaves and is extradited to Sweden where he will face charges of sexual misconduct.
I am immensely interested in this topic as I love politics and unique journalism and feel that my passion and interest in this topic will assist me in gaining a more educated opinion on this issue. Also working with my mentor, Anita will further assist me in looking at this global issue from an array of angles. My personal view on this topic currently (without much knowledge) is that I believe that Wikileaks is doing a positive thing yet I disagree with the fact that some of their uncovered information that they publish could put people and countries national security at risk and I in no way condone that sort of behaviour. Yet, I am very excited to begin researching this topic from a variety of different opinions and hope that I learn much about this organisation and the work that it intends to do.
